Friends, students and associates of Professor Ayyappa Paniker met in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, January 14 to discuss the possibility of setting up a foundation in his name. A committee was constituted to pursue the idea. This group will take the lead in organising similar discussions in other parts of Kerala. A few participants have volunteered to organise similar sittings in Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Thrissur.
The gathering also agreed to take forward a few initiatives suggested
during the release of Kerala Kavitha the previous day. Among them are:
1. A directory of Paniker's associates.
2. Organise an archives. This would include audio and visual material
on Paniker, manuscripts and letters, published and unpublished works.
The archives should in future be the resource base for all reasearch
on his life and works. An appeal to be published in leading
publications seeking concerned material.
3. A selection from Kerala Kavitha issues over the years to be
compiled for publication.
4. A national festival of letters.
